U.S. Department of Agriculture

Last modified on Apr 25, 2022, 1:46:23 PM CDT

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) was implemented to prevent the harmful introduction of plant and animal pathogens into America’s system of agriculture and food production.

To ensure its programs and services are responsive to any potential bio-security threat, the USDA created The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).  The roles of APHIS include wildlife damage management, the welfare of animals, human health and safety, and ecosystems vulnerable to invasive pests and pathogens.

With the introduction of the Lacey Act, NMG is responsible for ensuring that all wood products are declared properly prior to entry into the U.S.  Clear and accurate identification of wood products is required to ensure compliance with this act.
